Our BIG 5 - 0 !
2007 marks the 50th year of business here at Fulfab. Founded by Robert A. Weinland from his suburban Canton, Ohio garage in 1957, the Company began as a small steel fabrication shop utilizing a hand-press brake and shear to Fully fabricate industrial building kits that were shipped to and quickly assembled by customers across the country. A keen interest in general aviation paved the way for Mr. Weinland to design a line of aircraft hangars based on those same building concepts and within two years Fulfab became the first ever, exclusive manufacturer of T-Hangars.

Fast forward to 2006, when we completed our most successful year ever by shipping 520 T-Hangar units and erecting 360 of those. This year we will produce the 10,000th unit in our history, and will have supplied T-Hangars to hundreds of airports across 43 states and Canada.

While building components have evolved over the years with technological advancements in steel products and fabricating equipment, our formula for success has remained largely unchanged from our humble roots. By offering a full range of services starting with project planning and design through post-sale service and on-site consultation, we have built and maintained a solid reputation in the general aviation community.

We produce a fully integrated building and bifold or sliding door system that is manufactured with close attention to detail and completely pre-fabricated to the greatest extent in the industry. We round out our full service philosophy by being the only manufacturer to offer factory-direct steel erection services.

Realizing our success is directly attributable to the commitments of 50 years of loyal customers, we say “THANK YOU” and hope we have the opportunity to work with many of you in the years to come.

Oakland County International Airport

Late last year we completed the largest single hangar project in the 50 year history of Fulfab. Over the course of 18 months we supplied, general contracted and erected 12 T-Hangar buildings consisting of 158 units for Oakland County, Michigan. That brings the total number of units we have supplied to the field in Pontiac to 378.

This latest project called for three different models of our T-Hangars utilizing our electrically operated bifold doors with openings of 42´ x 12´, 44´ x 14´ and 48´ x 14´. The buildings also featured maintenance areas with bifold doors half the widths listed above, electrical rooms and a restroom facility. Galvalume Plus roofing and full-height interior partitions along with our standard pre-painted exterior wall and door sheeting were also provided.

As general contractor for the project, we worked with local subcontractors to construct concrete foundations and floors, perform all interior electrical work, construct and paint interior firewalls and install the restroom facilities. We used our own factory-direct crews employed by T-Corp to perform all steel erection work on the job.

Bob Oates, our Chief Engineer, worked closely with Bill Jackson, Project Manager for Oakland County Facilities Engineering to coordinate and successfully complete the project on time and within budget. Quoting Bill Jackson “Bob, I would like to thank the Team at Fulfab and T-Corp for the fine job at Oakland County International Airport. 158 units is no small job, as you know. Shannon Pirl and his crew worked hard to keep the project on schedule. With the successful completion of this project, I would like to say THANK YOU!”

Meet the Staff

Shannon Pirl, or “Junior”, as he is fondly referred to around here, has been a member of our steel erection team since 1999. Shannon has steadily worked his way up the ladder from general laborer to the position he holds today of Field Crew Foreman. His responsibilities include supervision of projects we erect, assistance to customers who choose to erect their own hangars, service of existing hangars and driving an outrageous number of cross-country miles each year.

Shannon’s dedication and hard work, evidenced by the 2,200 hours he worked on the road during 2006, inspires confidence in the men he supervises, as well as the customers he strives to satisfy. Shannon has spent the better part of the past 18 months supervising and successfully completing, on-time and within budget, the Oakland-Pontiac project chronicled throughout this newsletter.

Shannon and the men who work with him allow us to provide field services to our customers which are unmatched in the industry. Erection of T-Hangars, as with any construction work, requires a certain level of on-site expertise. Because our crews erect only our products, they will complete your project more efficiently and accurately than general construction crews. You will find even a few days assistance from Shannon or another foreman, which is included in each building package we offer, invaluable to the successful completion of your job.

Shannon was born and raised on farmland along the Ohio River in southeastern Ohio. He still calls that area home today and can be found helping his father out on the farm during his rare time off. He is an avid deer hunter, a popular activity in the rolling terrain of that part of the state, and enjoys tinkering with his Ford F-250.

Bifold Door Maintenance Guide & Checklist

We recommend that you inspect and lubricate your Fulfab T-Hangars and bi-fold doors at regular six month intervals. Reproduced above is our maintenance checklist with procedures that should be performed on each bifold door.

Each procedure referenced on the checklist is described and pictured in our ”Bifold Door Maintenance Manual.” We can provide copies of these manuals to you free of charge.

Any worn or damaged parts should be reported and replacement parts secured before the doors are used further. Fulfab maintains a complete stock of retrofit and replacement parts.

* Single-chain driven bifold doors should be retrofitted with our dual-chain drives to reduce the potential of personal injury and property damage.
